What to expect?
Canoeing is the perfect and most relaxing way to discover Lapland in summer while respecting its untouched nature. Finland, also known as the Land of a Thousand Lakes, is indeed covered by more than 188,000 lakes. Many of them are located in Lapland and offer, with fells and forests, beautiful harmonious landscapes. The lakes and rivers are also home to many birds and little mammals, such as geese, swans, longspurs, cranes, otters, and more. If you're lucky, you will spot many of them as you paddle!
During this activity, your qualified canoe guide will teach you the basic techniques for canoeing and provide you with all the safety instructions needed. You will be explained how to use the paddles, move on water, steer your canoe, react if capsizing, etc. Your guide will always keep an eye on you and will come to your aid if you need help.
While paddling, you will feel the peacefulness of the nature surrounding you and enjoy a completely different perspective of Lapland!
Once back ashore, you will be welcomed by an open fire and some typical Finnish snacks. This is a good moment for your guide to show you how to build and light a fire (without matches or lighter) using flint and steel. They will also explain to you more about Lapland, life in the Arctic, and nature.
Every moment of this tour is an excellent opportunity for photography enthusiasts, so do not forget to bring your camera along (but be careful with water).
The tour lasts 3 hours, including transportation, canoeing and safety instructions, paddling time (1-1.30 hours depending on your level), and the snack around the fire.
In all their excursions, the groups are limited to 8 adventurers maximum. It is essential for the team to provide you with the best experience possible and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. As they usually say: the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!
Please note:
- Please dress suitably for this trip, check the weather the day before, and have the necessary items ready.
- If the weather is unsafe, the team has the right to cancel the canoeing part of the trip at any time for safety reasons. You will be refunded 40% of the total amount if this happens.
- Hotel pickups commence before the start time. Your pick-up time will be confirmed by email one day before the activity.
