Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is one of the few places in the world where the Arctic Fox can raise its young without fear of being prey to hunters. On this tour, we meet the friendly foxes up close and personal as they are more inclined to allow us to get closer.

What to expect?
Embrace the untouched beauty of Iceland's isolated Hornstrandir with a day tour that marries breathtaking landscapes, exciting wildlife encounters, and cultural heritage. Set out on a boat ride to the secluded Kvíar, enjoy an immersive hike in pristine nature, potentially spot playful Arctic foxes, and savor a home-cooked dinner in our restored farmhouse from 1921. Note that fox sightings can't be guaranteed, but the overall experience in this secluded paradise is unforgettable.
Itinerary
We gather at our Service Center (white container) for a briefing 30 minutes before departure. Here, we'd like to answer your questions and make final preparations. We set off from Ísafjörður harbor on our passenger ferry at 9:00 am.
The boat journey, lasting just over an hour, takes us through fjords and mountain cliffs before disembarking at the Kvíar farmhouse. Once ashore, we spend the day exploring the untamed nature surrounding Kvíar Lodge, delving into its history and trying to spot the Arctic foxes.
The day is flexible, catering to guests interested in photography or those wanting to wait for fox sightings. Others might hike up the valley behind the farmhouse, admire cascading waterfalls, or bask in the purity of Iceland's air.
Please note that we cannot guarantee fox sightings due to factors like tide timings and behavioral patterns, but we will utilize our expertise to maximize the chances.
In the afternoon, our guide prepares a delectable dinner, enjoyed in the cozy ambiance of our fellow travelers and the vintage farmhouse. After dinner, we board the boat, arriving in Ísafjörður around 7 pm.
