Rovaniemi: Midnight Sun & Sunset Guided Canoe Trip

Enjoy the delightful colors of the Midnight Sun and the White Nights in the best possible way! Canoeing is undoubtedly the best outdoor activities to experience the beautiful reflections of the never-ending sunset colours in the peaceful waters while enjoying some gentle exercise surrounded by beautiful Arctic nature. The Rovaniemi area is full of stress-free rivers that are easy to navigate, with picturesque nature and landscapes to observe. The open view offered by the river is also perfect to enjoy the the warm shades of the sun's rays, and their reflections in the waters, making this canoe experience the best way to enjoy the Midnight Sun or sunsets in Rovaniemi!

During the tour, you will enjoy paddling your own canoe on a quiet rivers, moving slowly between islands or stopping by to some hidden sand beaches. In summertime, you will be surprised by the temperature of the water as it is always warmed all day (and all "night") long by the sun ; if you would like to, you may even take some time to have a memorable swim in the river!

This unique canoe adventure is adapted to all levels, and organized in small groups for more comfort. It is led by a certified canoeing guide who will provide you with paddling instructions and other safety aspects. They will always be there to assist you if you need, and offer you as much of their stories and passion as they can! During the paddling time, a small snack with hot drinks will be served.

The tour is organized between end of May until mid-September in the evenings and starts at a flexible time, adapted to the sunset hours. The Midnight Sun period in Rovaniemi lasts from end of May until early July. In July and August, the sun sets for a few hours only, offering equally impressive warm colors and the so-called "white nights". In September and early October, it is possible to request a Northern lights departure in autumn (if you are brave enough to paddle on cold waters) - please send us a request if you wish so.

We recommend to book in advance, as availability may be limited in peak seasons.

A minimum of 2 paying adult participants is required for the trip to operate. We reserve the right to cancel the trip if the group is too small or because of bad weather conditions.

Participants will steer their own canoe ; one participant can be with the guide if they do not feel comfortable with paddling alone. Each canoe can accommodate 2 adults and one child. Groups are limited in order to offer an intimate experience ; for larger groups, please contact us. 

If you are a solo traveler, you are very welcome to join any departing trip at the standard price or we may organise the trip just for you at some extra costs (please contact us).

Child prices apply only to children under 12 years old. Children must be accompanied by one adult. The child rate only apply if the conditions of two paying adult participant is met.

Please dress appropriately according to the weather, with comfortable (preferably waterproof) clothes, hats/sunglasses and sunscreen. 

The tour is adapted to the levels of the participants, even beginners. This tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers or for people with back issues. We do not recommend for children under 4 years old to join as the trip either ; their participation is subject to our approval before booking the tour. 

Regarding weather conditions : the tour will operate even if the sky is cloudy or mostly cloudy, or if the conditions are not optimal for Midnight sun observation. In all cases, the canoeing experience is always the main part of the tour, and we will adapt to the conditions to make it the most memorable possible.
