Overview
A private fjord journey into the roadless Fyksesund, combining calm RIB cruising with a guided hike to a hidden viewpoint above the fjord.
What to expect?
This is a private and premium RIB and hiking experience, operated exclusively for your group. The tour follows a defined structure and route, with a fixed landing point in the roadless hamlet of Botnen and a guided hike to the viewpoint Furehaugen. he experience runs on request and combines a scenic boat journey with an easy-paced walk, allowing guests to explore the surroundings at their own pace.
From Norheimsund, we head out into the Hardangerfjord before turning into Fyksesund – the narrowest and most dramatic fjord branch in the region, and the only one without a road all the way in. As the fjord tightens, steep mountain walls rise straight from the water, and the sense of remoteness becomes clear.
Along the fjord, speed, pacing, photo stops, and time spent at selected locations can be adjusted within the tour framework. Your local skipper and guide slow the tempo at key points, sharing stories about the landscape, former settlements, and life along the fjord. During snowmelt or after rainfall, Fyksesund comes alive with waterfalls, and we cruise close enough for you to feel the fresh spray.
At the end of the fjord, we go ashore in Botnen, a geographically isolated and roadless hamlet shaped by nature, history, and self-reliance. Very few visitors ever set foot here. The walk through Botnen and up to the viewpoint is truly off the beaten path, and almost exclusively used by those joining this experience. There is no through traffic, no crowds, and no established tourist flow.
The guided hike follows a gravel road and trail (approx. 2 km each way) and leads to Furehaugen, a discreet and little-known viewpoint 180 metres above sea level. From the top, you look straight down into Fyksesund and across the scattered houses of Botnen.
Here, we take a short, well-earned break. Local, small-scale produced drinks and snacks are served, giving you time to relax, take photos, and enjoy the silence and perspective of the fjord. This pause is an integral part of the experience and reflects the slow, high-quality nature of the tour.
After the break, we hike back down to the fjord and return by RIB at a relaxed pace, letting the landscape set the rhythm for the journey out.
This experience is designed for guests who value privacy, authenticity, and personal hosting, and who want to explore the Hardangerfjord far beyond the usual routes.
