What to expect?
Our spectacular tour includes a Super Jeep ride with a glacier-trained local guide from Hali. Starting at Hali Country Hotel reception, your guide will drive you to the glacier area, away from the crowds and onto the beaten path, where you can absorb the fresh Icelandic air.After the Super Jeep ride to the glacier area, we take a short zodiac boat trip and sail a short distance to where the glacier walk starts. (If you wish for a longer boat ride. we recommend that people take a boat tour at Glacier Lagoon or Fjallsárlón, our boat ride here is for 2 minutes).
The glacier walk starts with an introduction to the equipment and safety rules needed to explore. It is important that you have comfortable hiking boots and we will provide the ice crampons and teach you how to attach them to the boots. There's no worry of slipping. Other security items given include helmets and ice axes.
You are now ready to begin your hike!
We will walk through a wonderland of glacial ice sculptures, ridges and the deep crevasses of the glacier. You will see big sinkholes, called “Moulin”, that sometimes have pierced their way through the glacier, draining the meltwater of the ice through little waterfalls and streams. The glacier, in addition, carries with it ashes of volcanic eruptions forming a pyramid called a 'dirt cone.'
Once we reach the ice climbing area, you are ready and fully equipped to begin your tour of a lifetime. Climbing the marvellous ice glaciers of Icelandic nature!
The tour is intended for those who want to spend half a day outside walking, climbing the ice, talking, and creating unforgettable moments with friends and family.
Requirements:
- Minimum age is 14 years old
Please bring:
- Good hiking shoes/boots
- Good clothing based on the weather
- 3 layers on top: base layer, light sweater-like fleece and water or windproof top
- Light warm pants - waterproof if needed
- Gloves and thin hat
- Camera

Please note: this tour is moderated and can be done by most adults. The minimum age is 14 years old. This tour has a maximum of 4 participants to make sure that everyone can enjoy the climbing part of the trip. The tour takes between 4 and 5 hours including the drive back and forth from our pick-up location at Hali reception. You don’t have to have an ice climbing experience for this tour. We can adjust the climbing part to the group's ability from extreme to easy conditions.
