Description

Less than an hour's drive from the hustle and bustle of Reykjavík and set against a backdrop
of the majestic mountainous lava fields, ION Adventure Hotel is where modern design
meets Iceland's incomparable natural landscape. Situated in the south-western town of
Selfoss, only a 15- minute drive from Þingvellir, and near a national crossroad making the
hotel accessible to various parts of the country, ION Adventure is conveniently located to
offer guests the best of Iceland. From the volcanic marvels of Mount Hengill to the urban
sophistication of Reykjavik nearby, the unique landscape plays a pivotal role in the rich design
of the hotel, which leans heavily on sustainable practices and the natural features of the
island. Throughout 45 rooms, guests can expect a mellow mix of concrete chic and earthy
ambiance, combined with the warm accents of locally salvaged driftwood and lava; all deftly
handled by design studio Minarc. Beyond this, the farm-fresh cuisine at Silfra Restaurant &
Bar, view-heavy Northern Lights Bar, and partially exposed Lava Spa all ensure that visitors
have the ultimate Icelandic experience before even stepping foot outside. Representing both
local handicraft culture and the family roots of the owner, Sverrisdóttir's mother has knitted
Icelandic wool sweater that are available for purchase in the hotel lobby. This same pattern is
the inspiration for the facade of the new ION City property.

ATTN! Please note that road 435 is closed during the winter time between October 1st to May 1st - beware, as it will still pop up in your GPS.
When driving from Reykjavík, please take the road 36 towards Thingvellir and turn right towards Nesjavellir on road 360. We recommend renting a car with spiked tires.
Please check the road condition before every trip at www.road.is. If you are not used to driving in icy conditions, please arrange alternative transport to the hotel with a driver.
