Embark on a 3.5-hour family-friendly rafting adventure on the West Glacial River, starting from Hafgrímsstaðir. Upon arrival at the Hafgrímsstaðir rafting base, get suited up in your drysuit. From there, a bus will take you to the scenic banks of the West Glacial River, known for its thrilling yet gentle currents.
Armed with your paddle, board the raft and let the river's flow guide you downstream. As you navigate the river with your guide, marvel at the stunning views of the lush riverbanks. Cap off your journey with an exhilarating cliff jump and a refreshing swim in the glacial waters.
Preparing for Your Rafting Experience:
Expect Wet Conditions: It's highly likely you'll get wet, so brace yourself for it.
Icelandic Climate: Despite it being your summer vacation, remember that Iceland isn't tropical. Thus, typical summer attire like speedos won't be ideal.
Nature of Rivers: Our rafting sessions occur on glacial rivers, meaning the waters come from recently melted ice. Given the unpredictable and often cold conditions, being unprepared can not only leave you uncomfortable but can also pose safety risks.
Participant's Responsibility: Ensure you're adequately dressed in warm attire for the adventure.
Recommended Attire for the River:
Thermal underwear or base layers
Warm fleece top or wool sweater
Fleece pants or extra long johns
At least one pair of thick wool socks or hiking socks
It's essential to be prepared for the wet conditions. Ensure your clothing retains its insulating properties even when damp. We suggest materials like fleece, wool, and synthetics. Avoid COTTON—this means no jeans or your favorite hoodie!
