Join our 'Game of Thrones' expert as they guide you through iconic filming locations from the popular HBO series. The Myvatn area served as the backdrop for the "Beyond the Wall" scenes in the series' third season, with filming commencing in 2012. The Traveling Viking was privileged to guide some of the crew through the area.
The narrative unfolds in this remote area, home to the Wildlings or Free Folk governed by King Mance Rayder. Here, under his leadership, an army assembles, facing threats from the ominous White Walkers endangering both the Seven Kingdoms and the Free Folk’s territory. The storyline follows Jon Snow as he integrates himself into the Wildling army to unravel Mance Rayder’s strategies.
Aside from reliving moments from 'Game of Thrones,' this tour offers insights into J.R. Tolkien's inspiration for the mystical world of 'Lord of the Rings,' highlighting his profound connection to Iceland.
Our journey begins at the picturesque Goðafoss waterfall, a site many Icelanders associate with the genesis of Icelandic Christianity. Delve deeper into this historical context as we tour the locale. Further stops include iconic settings such as Dimmuborgir, home to dark castles; Grjótagjá, known for its underground caves; and Hverir, featuring bubbling mud pits and steam vents.
