What to expect?
In one word... AWESOME! This experience is akin to your favorite Disney World ride, but without a seatbelt! And just like that ride, you don't need any previous rafting experience to find out why the East Glacial River is Iceland's premier whitewater rafting trip. We are seasoned professionals so that you don't have to be. If you're apprehensive about being splashed by massive waves and aren't a fan of adrenaline-pumping excitement, then this trip might not be for you. However, we're quite sure that you'd enjoy our Family Rafting trip.
The East Glacial River Gorge (Jökulsá-Austari) sets the backdrop for our most thrilling and captivating rafting day tour. With its breathtaking deep canyon views and unceasing heart-thumping whitewater, the East has been consistently ranked among Europe’s top rafting rivers. It has also featured prominently in guidebooks as an Icelandic "must-do." As one of the most secluded single-day rafting trips globally, this whitewater journey provides an unparalleled foray into the raw beauty of Iceland’s river wilderness. Add to that a dash of adrenaline that's potent enough to satisfy the most intense thrill-seekers. If you're visiting Iceland with a taste for adventure, this is a day tour you shouldn't overlook!
Preparing for Your Rafting Trip
General Guidelines:
Expect to Get Wet: Don't be surprised when you do.
Cold Conditions: Iceland isn't tropical. Even in summer, it can be cold. All rafting trips are on glacial rivers with recently melted ice water.
Safety Concerns: The elements are unpredictable. Overexposure to cold and wet conditions can be a safety risk.
Your Responsibility: Ensure you come prepared with the right clothing.
What to Wear on the River:
Thermal underwear/base layers
Warm fleece top or wool sweater
Fleece pants or extra long johns
Thick wool socks or hiking socks (at least 1 pair)
Note: Wear materials that insulate even when wet, such as fleece, wool, and synthetics. Avoid COTTON; leave your jeans and favorite hoodie at home.
