What to expect?
At Snow Dogs Iceland, two guests and a musher typically share a wooden sled pulled by 8-10 Siberian Huskies. The scenic trail spans 6-10 km and takes about 45-70 minutes, including picture stops. Your musher will teach you the basics of dog sledding and how to work with these incredible dogs. If you’re interested, you can even help mush the sled with one of our guides. After the tour, you’ll have plenty of time to visit the kennel, meet, cuddle, and take pictures with the dogs. The total tour time, including the kennel visit, is 2-2.5 hours.
We welcome you to our Siberian Husky kennel at Vallholt farm in North Iceland. Here, you’ll meet the dogs in their home environment and see how they live. They’re always excited to meet new people and go to work.
You’ll start by dressing in overalls provided by Snow Dogs for the tour. Then, you’ll meet the dogs and get to know them before they are let out into the big yard to warm up and socialize with each other and the guests. This is when they are most excited, eager to start running. Before we begin, we’ll go over sled safety and hook the dogs up to the sleds. Once everything is ready, the tour starts.
The dog sledding tour begins at our farm and covers about 6-7 km. We take breaks for pictures and to let the dogs cool down a bit along the way. After the tour, the dogs are happy and calm, ready for some petting and belly rubs.
If you are more then 100 kgm please let us know in advance so we can make necessary arrangements. Not suitable for pregnant women. If there is lack of snow we will move the tour to higher grounds if possible. If we need to cancel our tours we provide a full refund.
Note that sometimes the dogs get very loud when we are about to leave for the sled ride, they just want to run not wait. We strongly advise to have accommodation close to the Kennel the night before the dog sledding experience! Coming to Iceland in the winter it can come in handy to have warm clothing good shoes and goggles. Driving in Iceland in Iceland winter is much safer with studded tires and 4x4 cars.
