Overview
Welcome to Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland and an epicenter for adventures. This weekend package invites you to explore Reykjavik and to try two of the most iconic excursions the island has to offer: the Golden Circle, and a luxury Northern Lights cruise!
What to expect?
Enjoy an Iceland adventure holiday over 4, 5 or 6 nights depending on your preference.Check in to your hotel, located in central Reykjavik. Upon booking you receive a voucher for a three-star or better hotel. Present your voucher at the front desk to get your room. Your booking includes breakfast every morning for the duration of your stay.
Now, explore Reykjavik! You are in the world’s northernmost capital, inhabited by only 150,000 people or so but still a miniature metropolis in terms of dining, wining, culture and nightlife. See Hallgrimskirkja Church. Visit Grandi, Reykjavik’s fishpacking district. You could also check out the Marshall House, the Whales of Iceland Museum, or the Aurora Reykjavik Museum. At night, hit the bars and discover the buzz of this very small, big city.
The Golden Circle:
The next day, get ready for your grand Golden Circle excursion. Meet up at Bus stop #8 (opposite Storm Hotel) in Þórunnartún street 6 at 10:15am. Your pick-up is scheduled for 10:30am. Because the center of Reykjavik is small, to avoid traffic jams the city decided to create a network of bus stops covering all parts of town. Bus stop #8 is only a few minutes walking from your hotel.
This grand day tour is a must-see for all who visit Iceland. Witness the intersection between history and nature inside Thingvellir National Park, the famous Great Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall and Kerið crater.
Highlights of the tour:
- Geysir Geothermal Area
- Gullfoss Waterfall
- Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park
- Kerið volcanic crater (entrance fee included)
Itinerary of the day:
Kerið volcanic crater is the first stop we make. Kerið is a crater lake that became a focal point for tourist activity thanks to the breathtaking contrast of its blue waters and red lava rock surroundings.
Our next stop is the Gullfoss Waterfall otherwise known as the Golden Falls. Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most majestic waterfalls. The waterfall originates in the Langjökull glacier and gets its name from the golden hue it gives off as it tumbles down into the canyon.
After Gullfoss, we venture to the geothermal area called after the original geyser called Geysir. The Geysir area boosts with steam vents, bubbling pits, hot ponds, magnificent colours and the highlight of the site, Strokkur Geyser. Strokkur performs natural and powerful eruptions, spouting water and steam some 20m up in the air every 10 minutes. Walking paths take you between interesting geothermal features so you don't miss out on any wonder or the smell!
Our last stop (certainly not the least) is the National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site called Þingvellir (Thingvellir). Þingvellir is Iceland's most important site when it comes to history and geology. This is where the worlds first parliament was established by the Vikings in 930 AD, making it the oldest active parliament in the world. The park sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of 2 tectonic plates, the Eurasian and the North American.
Starting from the bottom of the Rift Valley you walk in the footsteps of the Vikings, along impressive Almannagjá all the way to Hakið. Hakið is an ideal viewing point giving you a great overview of the whole area. You can almost witness the continental drift as you take a walk between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Please note: the duration of the tour is 8.5hrs. The tour allows for lunchtime at the Geysir area.
Northern Lights Cruise:
At 8:30pm the evening of the next day, meet up at the Sea Trips Reykjavik ticket office in the central Reykjavik harbor; in Ægisgarður street 5b. The harbor is 10 to 15 minutes walking from your hotel, or a quick taxi fare away.
The celestial phenomenon of the Northern Lights has bewitched and enchanted generations and is truly one of Earth’s most magnificent sights. Get ready for your personal Northern Lights adventure!
Out on the North Atlantic Ocean, the coastline of Reykjavík is one of the best places on Earth to view the Northern Lights. Escape light pollution and visual interferences, and maximize your chances of seeing the aurora dancing across the skies during your visit to Iceland.
There's no better way to experience this natural phenomenon than with the Northern Lights Luxury cruise with Amelia Rose. This beautiful vessel, measuring 108 feet in length, offers the ultimate in luxury, stability, and comfort.
The 125-passenger ship with all its amenities and multiple viewing decks sets a unique and adventurous frame around your whale watching excursion. Experience the natural phenomenon in comfort and style. Welcome to sea.
