What to expect?
This is a super jeep adventure with the unforgettable experience of walking through caves made from ice on the Katla glacier.
To get to the glacier we use modified jeeps with huge tyres. This is part of the adventure. When we arrive at the base of the glacier in the middle of the Icelandic wilderness, we will explore the ice caves, and hike around a little on the glacier.
After that, we drive to Hjorleifshofdi, a deserted black sand beach. We spend as much time as possible on the glacier giving you the chance to really take in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Our guides know these areas very well and have been working in the area for many years. All of our guides have experience and are trained in glacial exploration and are first aid certified.
Itinerary:Katla Ice Cave The Katla glacier is a tongue, a flow of ice that comes from Mýrdals glacier, Iceland's fourth largest glacier. At the base of the Katla glacier are many caves, created by water which pours down the glacier in the warmer months of the year. The area is fascinating, with raw nature at its best, and proper movie-making landscapes.
Crystal blue ice caves, rugged Icelandic nature and towering mountains of ice. Prepare to be amazed!Hjörleifshöfði After our time on the glacier, we head south towards the coast to a place called Hjorleifshofdi.
This is actually a massive rocky outcrop that used to be an island in the ocean, but that all changed when the Katla volcano erupted in 1918. This place is full of great history and we love to tell you the stories of old, of the first settler that came ashore here. We also visit the Hjorleifshofdi Cave, commonly known as the Yoda Cave.Last but certainly not least we drive towards the ocean, to a deserted black sand beach away from the crowds.
