What to expect?
We want to tell you why you should push through your instincts to sleep during the night, and perhaps even invert it!It’s difficult to imagine unless you have experienced it yourself. This is why we urge you, if you are in Iceland right now, or if you are planning to come next summer, you should try to hike the highlands during the summer.
We will hike the Fimmvörðuháls trek from the famous Skógafoss to Þórsmörk, where a feast awaits you. The hike is 25km through different terrain. Once you have arrived in Thorsmork, you can stay longer and explore. Experience how light comes through the valley at different times of the day. Sunrise and Sunset during this period, are not far apart, and you can easily see both as it happens in the space of 4 hours.
Please bring:
- Your own water/drinks, at least 2L per person
- Enough snacks for 25 km!
- Camera
Please note: when outdoors, we strongly recommend you wear proper clothing based on the layers principle. The outer layer must be water and windproof. Always bring (fleece/wool) mid-layer sweaters and long (wool/synthetical) baselayer/underwear, both in winter and summer. It is important to use the right footwear – waterproof hiking boots with profiled soles. A hat, gloves, scarf, sunglasses, sunblock, lip balm and a comfortable backpack are recommended all year round. Cotton clothing is out of the question since cotton gets cold and icy when wet. On hiking trips, we have a NO COTTON ALLOWED policy.
