What to expect?
The highlights of this tour include a boat trip on Jökulsárlón, the glacier lagoon in front of Europe’s largest glacier, and a guided walk on the blue ice of Sólheimajökull. Professional glacier guides provide all safety equipment, including crampons and ice axes, and teach you how to use them properly. The views from the glacier are stunning, with ice sculptures and deep crevasses clearly visible.
On Day 1, we explore the South Coast, visiting Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, as well as hidden gems like Gljúfrabúi and Irafoss. After a lunch stop, we drive under Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers for a 1.5-hour glacier hike at Sólheimajökull. The day ends at Reynisfjara Black Beach with its basalt columns and towering rock stacks, followed by an overnight stay at Nicehostel Seljalands.
Day 2 takes you further east, stopping in the village of Vík and at Foss á Síðu waterfall, before visiting Skaftafell National Park. The highlight is Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you take a boat tour among massive icebergs, some washing up on Diamond Beach, and may spot seals swimming nearby. The tour concludes with a return to Reykjavík, arriving around 21:15 (9:15 pm).
