What to expect?
Over 3 days and 2 nights, explore Iceland’s Golden Circle and South Coast from Reykjavík to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Your journey begins with Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall, then continues along the South Coast to Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, and Reynisfjara black sand beach.
Hike on a glacier with certified guides and enter a natural blue ice cave near Vatnajökull, then visit Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach. In the evenings, there are chances to see the Northern Lights if weather conditions allow.
Stay in hotels with breakfast and private bathrooms and travel in a small-group minibus with a professional English-speaking guide and Wi-Fi on board. This guided tour is suitable for travelers in normal health who enjoy light outdoor activities such as short hikes and glacier walking.
Day 1: Explore Þingvellir, Gullfoss, and Geysir
Begin your adventure with the ultimate Golden Circle tour. Visit Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart, and walk between continents. See Iceland’s largest natural lake and learn about the site where the Icelandic parliament was founded in 930 AD. Continue to the Geysir geothermal area, home to colorful hot springs and the erupting Strokkur geyser. Finish the day at Gullfoss Waterfall, where glacial meltwater plunges into a dramatic canyon, creating misty rainbows and unforgettable views.
Day 2: Walk Behind Seljalandsfoss, Climb Skógafoss, Hike the Glacier, and Discover Reynisfjara
Travel along Iceland’s south coast to Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the tumbling waterfall and feel its vibrations. Nearby, discover Gljúfrabúi, a hidden waterfall tucked inside a gorge. Continue to the majestic Skógafoss, a 60-meter waterfall where rainbows often appear in the spray. Prepare for adventure with a glacier hike on an outlet glacier from one of Iceland’s largest ice caps. Strapped with helmets, harnesses, crampons, and ice axes, hike across the ice while learning about the glacier’s unique ecology. Conclude the day at Reynisfjara, the black sand beach with basalt columns, massive waves, and views of Dýrhólaey cliffs and rock pillars in the Atlantic.
Day 3: Cruise Jökulsárlón, Explore Ice Caves, and Visit Diamond Beach
Experience the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a 200-meter-deep lake fed by Breiðamerkurjökull. Board a boat (summer season) among floating icebergs and maybe spot seals sunbathing on ice. Walk alongside the lagoon for serene views and the silence of Icelandic nature. Cross the road to Diamond Beach, where icebergs from the lagoon are washed ashore, sparkling like diamonds against black sand. End your adventure with a Super Jeep Ice Cave Tour, journeying up the glacier to explore the unique blue ice caves. This small-group experience with an expert guide completes the ultimate Icelandic south coast expedition.
