What to expect?
This thrilling tour invites you to explore Borgarfjörður, a region steeped in myth and history, known as the heartland of the Icelandic Sagas. With its raw natural beauty and deep cultural significance, Borgarfjörður offers a fascinating blend of storytelling, adventure, and relaxation.
Viking Legends and Icelandic Sagas
As we journey into Borgarfjörður, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the dramatic settings that inspired the famous Icelandic Sagas. These medieval tales of heroism, family feuds, and survival were born in these very valleys and mountains. With every step, you'll be walking in the footsteps of legendary Vikings like Egill Skallagrímsson and Snorri Sturluson.
Natural Wonders: Waterfalls, Hot Springs, and Glaciers
Our first major stop is Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Here, you can witness water bubbling at a near-boiling 97°C (207°F), steaming out of moss-covered lava rocks. This geothermal marvel supplies hot water to much of West Iceland and powers local spas like Krauma.
Next, we visit two stunning waterfalls:
Hraunfossar ("Lava Falls") – A series of crystal-clear rivulets that seem to magically emerge from beneath the Hallmundarhraun lava field, cascading over a wide expanse into the Hvítá river.
Barnafoss ("Children’s Falls") – A powerful, churning waterfall with a tragic legend. According to folklore, two children fell to their deaths here, giving the falls their haunting name. The surrounding landscape, with its natural stone arch and turbulent waters, evokes both beauty and mystery.
After reaching Húsafell, you’ll have the chance to enhance your Silver Circle experience with one of the following optional activities (please note these options are not included and priced per person as an extra at checkout) :
Snowmobiling on Langjökull Glacier – an exhilarating ride across Iceland’s second-largest glacier, offering unmatched views and high-adrenaline fun.
ATV Quad Biking in Húsafell – explore the rugged terrain surrounding Húsafell on an exciting off-road adventure.
Guided Tour of Víðgelmir Cave – venture deep into one of Iceland’s largest lava caves and discover its spectacular formations and volcanic history.
Húsafell Canyon Baths – relax in naturally heated geothermal pools set in a remote canyon with stunning views.
Into the Glacier: Langjökull Ice Tunnel Experience - enter the heart of Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier. Ride in a specially modified glacier vehicle up the icy slopes, then venture inside a man-made tunnel that leads deep into the ancient ice.
Krauma Geothermal Spa - where luxury meets the wild power of nature. Fed by Deildartunguhver’s geothermal waters and cooled with glacial meltwater from nearby rivers, Krauma offers the perfect temperature in its five outdoor pools. Soak in the natural warmth, try the cold plunge for an invigorating rush, and relax by the fireplace in the minimalist, Icelandic-designed relaxation room.
Off the Beaten Path
We’ll leave the busy Ring Road behind as we wind through quiet farmlands and vast lava fields shaped by ancient eruptions. Keep your eyes peeled for hidden waterfalls tumbling down mossy cliffs, glacial rivers rushing through narrow gorges, and the occasional Icelandic horse grazing under the open sky.
Whether you're here for the sagas, the landscapes, or the warm waters, this tour is your gateway to the true essence of Iceland. Let us know when you’re ready to join us on this unforgettable adventure through the land of fire, ice, and legends!
