What to expect?
Imagine snorkeling between two continents: Europe and North America. Sounds unbelievable? Well, it is a reality when you snorkel in Silfra, an exotic underwater canyon located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir, less than 50 km from Reykjavik.
Dive into the Split Between Continents
Silfra is a freshwater fissure, widening by about 2 cm per year as the continental plates drift apart. It's revered as one of the world's premier dive sites due to its incredibly clear freshwater, providing visibility up to 100 meters. Some divers even describe the sensation as flying because of the water's pristine clarity.
Marvel at Unparalleled Scenery
With visibility exceeding 100 meters, immerse yourself in awe-inspiring sights as sunlight stretches through the crystal-clear waters, illuminating the canyon's rocks and algae-covered walls. During the winter, witness the beautiful spectacle of snowflakes melting atop the tranquil, transparent water.
Enjoy Comfortable and Warm Snorkeling
Snorkeling in a dry suit offers extra protection from the frigid Arctic waters. The drysuit, constructed from layers of insulating fabric, keeps you dry and warm when paired with a thermal undergarment.
Key Information:
Silfra's water temperature ranges from 2-4 degrees Celsius (35 degrees Fahrenheit) year-round. A wetsuit will keep you relatively warm but won't entirely protect against cold water. Those who prefer to stay dry and warm may opt for a dry suit.
Unlike the drysuit that keeps you on the surface, the wetsuit enables you to dive a little under the surface for a closer exploration of Silfra. We recommend the wetsuit for adventurous participants.
No diving license is required. We'll provide all necessary gear, including a wetsuit or drysuit, depending on your preference.
Must be at least 145cm (4’9) tall and not exceed 200cm (6’7)
Must weigh at least 45kg (99 lbs) and not exceed 120kg (264 lbs)
