What to expect?
Combining caving and snorkelling delivers the ultimate experience of Icelandic nature. You will explore the mysterious world of the lava fields on foot and underwater.
The cave we will explore is called - Leiðarendi. It is a 900m long cave that lies — in fact — in a circle. The cave is pitch black without light, but you will be given a helmet and headlight to easily see the wonders that the cave has to offer. You will observe unique rock formations, like stalactites and shelves. Some light crawling may be required, yet Leiðarendi cave has rather direct access to the underworld wonders of the Icelandic lava fields. Fascinating fact: The lava above the cave was formatted more than 2000 years ago.
You will then snorkel under the UNESCO World Heritage Site - Þingvellir National Park at the freshwater fissure Silfra. This is one of the best diving sites in the world. Silfra is a 60-63m deep freshwater fissure where you can witness from one end to another, as the water is pristinely clear. For the cherry on top of the cake: Adventure Vikings offer you free photos taken of your exceptional adventure. Please note: Remember to bring your camera! Alternatively, you can rent a GoPro camera from us. Please bring lunch or a snack with you.
No diving experience is needed as you will snorkel at the surface of the canyon. We provide all the gear that you require and offer to snorkel in a wetsuit or drysuit, depending on your interest. Adventure Vikings remain the sole company in Iceland offering wetsuit snorkelling and we heartily recommend you to do so, as you will gain more freedom in your snorkelling experience.
Please dress according to the weather. We recommended that you bring a towel and swimwear if you are wearing a wetsuit, or comfortable and warm clothes if wearing a drysuit. A water-resistant outer layer is recommended as it can be wet inside the cave. Also, warm clothes to wear prior to and after the snorkelling, ie. long warm underwear, fleece, sweatsuit and warm socks.

Be comfortable in the water and be able to swim.
