During this phase, it is vital you wear solar eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from the sun.
100% totality begins at 17:48
Totality will last for about 1 minute. During this time, you can safely remove your protective glasses and watch with your naked eye. As totality occurs, daylight fades to a brief twilight. Up to four planets may become visible: Venus in the southwest, Jupiter and Mercury in the west, and perhaps Mars low in the northwest sky.
