What to expect?
The lava tunnel, stretching over a length of 1,300 metres, was carved by a colossal volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. Today, Raufarhólshellir stands as a testament to the power of nature and provides a window into the fascinating inner workings of a volcanic eruption.
As you traverse through the tunnel, you will journey along the very path that the molten lava once flowed through, etching its way into the Earth's crust all those centuries ago. The experience is certain to leave a lasting impression.
Our standard tour ensures a comfortable exploration of the tunnel. Inside the tube, a footbridge facilitates easy access while purpose-built lighting systems showcase the stunning volcanic activity that birthed the tunnel.
