What to expect?
Prepare yourself for a journey into the mystic realm of Iceland as we traverse extraordinary mountain vistas, mesmerizing black sand beaches, ancient lava fields, picturesque villages, and the enigmatic Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Tour Itinerary:
1. Selvallafoss, The Sheep's Waterfall: Start your expedition with a hidden gem, Selvallafoss. Nestled away from prying eyes, this quaint waterfall plunges down multi-tiered rocks, culminating in serene Selvallavatn. It's often sheltered to sheep escaping the biting winds. If you're adventurous, a careful trek can even lead you behind the waterfall's cascading veil.
2. Kirkjufell, The Arrowhead Mountain: Next, marvel at the majestic Kirkjufell, Iceland's most photographed mountain, and the renowned 'Arrowhead Mountain' from the Game of Thrones. Towering over Grundafjörður village's unique narrow peak and steep, rocky hills, sculpted by millions of years of volcanic activity and glacial erosion, make for a picture-perfect scene.
3. Saxhóll Crater: The perfectly formed volcanic crater, Saxhóll, is your next stop. The summit offers panoramic views, rising 45 meters from the mossy lava fields in Snæfellsjökull National Park. To the south, west, and north, the churning Atlantic Ocean stretches out, while to the east, the formidable Snæfellsjökull glacier captivates your gaze.
4. Djúpalónssandur, The Black Sand Beach: Journey to Djúpalónssandur, an ancient fishing boat landing and a bewitching black sandy beach nestled at the foot of Snæfellsjökull. Try your hand at lifting the ancient stones, ranging from Amlóði the Bungler at 23kg to Fullsterkur, Full strength at 154kg, traditionally used to test the mettle of prospective fishermen. Also, discover rusted remnants of the English trawler Eding, a maritime memory from 1948.
5. Arnarstapi, The Old Trading Post: Visit Arnarstapi, a historic trading post with mesmerizing columnar basalt formations, hidden ravines, and mysterious grottoes. We'll guide you along the coastline to marvel at these natural wonders and rich birdlife. An arctic tern colony thrives within the village, offering delightful wildlife viewing.
6. Ytri-Tunga, The Seal Beach: Before concluding the tour, we stop at Ytri-Tunga Beach, a hotspot for wild seal spotting. Here, you'll have a chance to observe the Common and Grey seals in their natural habitat, a remarkable way to end the journey before heading back to Reykjavík.
This exploration of Iceland's diverse and mystic landscapes is designed to instill wonder and leave you with memories that last a lifetime.
