Fjord Discovery
This single-day kayaking adventure in Önundarfjörður offers an immersive journey through one of Iceland's hidden treasures. Starting from the charming village of Ísafjörður, you'll meet your expert guide and embark on a day filled with serene paddling between the fjord’s mesmerizing mountains. Explore hidden coves, discover secluded beaches, and keep an eye out for local wildlife, including seals and seabirds. A delightful shoreline lunch amidst the breathtaking scenery adds to the experience. Whether you're a seasoned kayaker or a novice, Önundarfjörður promises a day of wonder in the heart of Icelandic wilderness.
We have a few options for an exciting paddling tour in the big fjord and the route we take all depends on the conditions and tides that day. See map here below with our favorite routes.
Please note
While the meeting point is in Ísafjörður, you have the option to use your personal car to drive to Önundarfjörður. This allows you the freedom to seamlessly continue your journey from Flateyri without returning to Ísafjörður. You can also spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful town of Flateyri, taking a refreshing dip in the pool, or dining at the local restaurant, all at your own pace, after the kayaking adventure.

What to bring
We do not provide overalls or extra clothing for this trip, so please come prepared for cold Icelandic weather. Wear warm outdoor clothing in layers—while the boat has a heated indoor area, the best whale spotting is from outside, so staying warm is essential.
Bring a waterproof jacket and trousers if you have them, along with a hat and gloves for extra protection. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also recommended, even in colder conditions. And don’t forget your camera to capture the experience!
