What to expect?
After an hour's scenic boat ride over fjords and along mountain cliffs, we will be dropped off at Slétta, where there is a beautiful sandy beach and a lighthouse where we often see curious seals swimming along the shore. The route then begins from the sandy beach and steadily climbs up along the sheer cliffs of Grænahlíð, which for many decades was the best shelter for fishing trawlers when storms reigned in the Atlantic. On a clear day, we’ll be able to see views across the whole of Ísafjarðardjúp bay and into the Jökulfirðir glacial fjords. And remember to keep an eye open for the elusive Arctic Fox!
Please note: please bring lunch for the day - one or two sandwiches and your favourite snacks. Please bring warm outdoor clothing, avoiding cotton as it keeps you cold when wet and takes a very long time to dry. A waterproof jacket, pants and hiking boots are strongly advised, preferably waterproof high-top hiking boots which provide ankle support. A hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, after-sun cream, a small backpack and a water bottle are also useful. Don't forget your camera!Age restriction: Minimum age is 16 years.
