What to expect?
The Seljalandsdalur and Hnífsdalur valleys offer stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. The mountains around Ísafjörður represent a unique shape and demonstrate the raw power of the glaciers which carved out the terrain around us.The chosen route transports us along mountain lakes, crystal clear streams, and carpets of fluorescent moss that is thoroughly characteristic for the mountains in the area. Experience the colourful wildflowers which bloom during the summer months and look carefully for the elusive Golden Plover, although they will be overheard before they’re sighted! The journey begins at our snug office in Aðalstræti 17 (downtown main street), where you meet your guide and make final preparations for the adventurous day ahead. A 5-minute drive up to the ski area in Seljalandsdalur will take us to where we start our the scenic hike.
After roughly an hour, we will arrive at the base of the mountain with Þjófatindar peaks looming above. We zig-zag up to the pass between the peaks for a spectacular view over the surrounding mountains and fjords. After breaking for refreshments, we'll continue down into the valley on the other side of the pass, where the quaint town of Hnífsdalur sits along the shore. Satisfied and awe-inspired, we will greet our car waiting to transport us back to Ísafjörður.
Please note: there is one steep section which we descend on the side of the pass. It is very short, and our guides will be there to help with every step!
