What to expect?
Sail through the pristine waters of the Alta Fjord, where a tapestry of scenery, wildlife, and history unfolds before you. On this tour, you're invited to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region, engaging all your senses in an adventure that weaves through the tranquil fjord waters.
As we navigate these serene expanses, keep your binoculars ready for an enchanting display of local bird species and other wildlife that grace the Alta Fjord. The longer sojourns carry the added thrill of possibly sighting the playful dolphins or the majestic whales that occasionally visit these waters, offering unforgettable moments.
Lend an ear to the enthralling tales of yesteryears, narrated by your knowledgeable guide. You'll hear of the vibrant local customs, heroic wartime sagas, and the echoes of the bygone mining era that shaped the community's spirit. These stories bring to life the enduring connection between the people and this wild, beautiful landscape.
Our voyage takes a historical turn as we set course for Kåfjord, the resting place of the German battleship Tirpitz—a poignant reminder of the past. It's here that English industrialists etched their legacy with the construction of robust mines, remnants of which still whisper tales of ambition and fortitude.
As we journey through the fjord's hidden gems, we'll encounter locals showcasing the unique fauna, a testament to the area's biodiversity. Your connection with nature will be rekindled as you witness the harmonious existence of life in this northern haven.
A visit awaits to the beautiful Årøya Island, with its dark history of witch trials and seclusion of the mentally ill, offering a somber reflection on human nature. Then, it's onwards to Talvik, once the bustling commercial heart of west Finnmark from the 17th century until 1917. Walking through Talvik, you'll travel back in time, feeling the pulse of ancient marketplaces and the whispers of old seafaring legends.
