Bodø: 8-Day Holiday Package Kystriksveien Coastal Route

This eight-day self-drive journey explores the Helgeland coast along the Kystriksveien route in Northern Norway. The trip begins in Bodø where you collect your rental car and stay for two nights. During your stay you join a RIB safari to Saltstraumen, one of the strongest tidal currents in the world.

From Bodø the route heads south toward Mo i Rana before continuing along the Helgeland coastline to Brønnøysund and Sandnessjøen. Along the way there are several viewpoints, small coastal communities, and scenic stops.

The journey continues along the Kystriksveien coastal road toward Furøy where you stay in a traditional rorbu with self-catering facilities and access to a boat.

The final driving day returns to Bodø before the journey ends with the return of your rental car at the airport.

Day 1: Arrive in Bodø and Pick Up Your Car
Arrive at Bodø Airport and collect your rental car. Drive to your accommodation and check in for a two-night stay. Spend the rest of the day exploring the harbour area and town centre.

Day 2: Join a Saltstraumen RIB Safari
Join a RIB safari from Bodø to the Saltstraumen tidal current. The tour departs from the Hurtigruten quay and travels toward one of the strongest tidal currents in the world. Your guide explains the powerful tidal forces while navigating close to the whirlpools. Thermal suits, goggles, and safety equipment are provided.

Day 3: Drive from Bodø to Mo i Rana
Begin your self-drive journey south toward Mo i Rana. The drive takes approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. Optional stops include Saltstraumen and the Arctic Circle Center before continuing to Mo i Rana for the night.

Day 4: Drive from Mo i Rana to Brønnøysund
Continue south along the Helgeland coast toward Brønnøysund. The drive takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes. Optional stops include Okstindan Nature and Culture Park, Mosjøen, and Aunstranda.

Day 5: Drive from Brønnøysund to Sandnessjøen
Drive north toward Sandnessjøen along the coastal route. The drive takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes with several scenic stops along the way.

Day 6: Drive from Sandnessjøen to Furøy via Kystriksveien
Follow the Kystriksveien coastal road toward Furøy. The journey takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes including ferry crossings. Check in to your rorbu accommodation with self-catering facilities and boat access.

Day 7: Drive from Furøy to Bodø via Kystriksveien
Return north to Bodø along the Kystriksveien route. The drive takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes with several viewpoints and coastal stops along the way.

Day 8: Depart from Bodø
Drive to Bodø Airport and return your rental car before departure.
