What to expect?
Rødøya is an island located in the Helgeland archipelago. It covers approximately 8 square kilometers. The island is known for its majestic mountains, pristine white beaches, and breathtaking landscapes. Notable peaks on Rødøya include Hestmannen (571 meters above sea level) and Blokktinden (1032 meters above sea level).Visitors can reach Rødøya by taking a fast boat either from the south or the north. Upon arrival, a pleasant walk along the road leads to the starting point for the Rødøyløva hike.
Rødøyløva is a famous viewpoint on Rødøya, offering panoramic vistas of the entire Helgeland coast from a single spot. On clear days, you can admire the beautiful sandy beaches of Rødøya and even catch a glimpse of the Lofoten Wall far to the north.
In 2018, a Sherpa staircase was built, making the ascent to Rødøyløva a bit easier.
The hike takes you northward through a steep slope, and once you reach the plateau, the views open up toward the fjords and high mountains on the mainland. At the top, you’ll find an impressive viewpoint right next to the mountain wall that forms the head of the “Løva” (which resembles a sphinx or lion when viewed from the sea).
