What to expect?
This eight-day self-drive journey explores the island regions of Lofoten and Vesterålen. The trip begins in Svolvær where you collect your rental car and spend the first night. From here you travel west across the Lofoten Islands toward Leknes with optional stops in Henningsvær and coastal viewpoints along the route.
The journey continues south toward Reine where you stay overnight in a traditional rorbu cabin. Along the route there are several beaches and viewpoints where you can stop and explore.
After returning to Svolvær the route continues north toward the Vesterålen Islands and the town of Andenes. From here the journey continues to Harstad, including a ferry crossing along the way.
The final driving day returns to Svolvær before the trip ends with the return of your rental car at the airport.
Day 1: Arrive in Svolvær and Pick Up Your Car
Arrive at Svolvær Airport and collect your rental car. Drive to your accommodation in the town centre and check in for a one-night stay. Spend the rest of the day exploring the harbour area and waterfront.
Day 2: Drive from Svolvær to Leknes
Begin your self-drive journey across the Lofoten Islands. Drive west toward Leknes with optional stops along the route including Henningsvær fishing village, Lyngvær coastal viewpoints, Sundklakkstraumen Bridge, and the Lofotr Viking Museum. Continue to Leknes and check in for the night.
Day 3: Drive from Leknes to Reine
Continue south through the Lofoten landscape toward Reine. Optional stops along the route include Rødsanden beach, Morpheus Beach, Lofoten Beach Camp, Rambergsstranda, and Kåkersundet Bridge viewpoints. Stay overnight in a traditional rorbu cabin in the Reine area.
Day 4: Drive from Reine to Svolvær
Drive back east across the islands toward Svolvær. Enjoy scenic viewpoints along the route and take time to revisit favourite locations. Check in to your hotel for the night.
Day 5: Drive from Svolvær to Andenes
Continue north toward the Vesterålen Islands. Optional stops include Hanøy, Vesterstraumen Bridge, Austpolleira, and Risøyhamn. Check in to your accommodation in Andenes for the night.
Day 6: Drive from Andenes to Harstad
Travel south toward Harstad. The route includes a ferry crossing along the way. Optional stops include Flesnes and Hemmestada Brygge. Check in to your hotel for the night.
Day 7: Drive from Harstad to Svolvær
Return to Svolvær with several optional coastal stops along the route including Gressholman Beach, Gausøya, Fiskefjorden, and Grønevelan Viewpoint. Check in to your accommodation for the final night.
Day 8: Depart from Svolvær
Drive to Svolvær Airport and return your rental car before departure.
