Camp Tamok: Ice Domes, Snowmobiling & Reindeer Visit

Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, you will be warmly greeted by your guide and outfitted with all the necessary gear and clothing, including thermal suit, boots, gloves and helmet as you will first head out on the snowmobiling tour. Our expert guides will provide thorough safety instructions on how to drive a snowmobile, ensuring everyone feels confident and safe before heading out on the tour. 

Follow your tour guide and embark on a breathtaking journey navigating along snowy trails, passing snow-covered mountains, valleys, frozen rivers, and lakes.

You will share a snowmobile with another person, taking turns as the driver and passenger. Halfway through the tour, we’ll have a short break where you’ll swap places, ensuring both of you have the chance to drive the snowmobile.

After the tour, you can relax and warm up with a hot meal and drink by the open fire inside one of the lávvus (indigenous Sámi tent).

During your meal, a camp host will inform you where and when you are expected for the second part of your activity: the visit to the Snow Sculpture Park. 

Enter the Park and discover the magic of the snow and ice sculptures. Wander around by yourself through a mesmerising display of snow and ice sculptures, a snow maze and explore our two domes. Marvel at the amazing art coming to life with light in its natural surroundings of pristine nature and peaceful Arctic landscapes. Get close to the two most iconic animals of Northern Norway: cuddle and take photos with our huskies and go visit the reindeers near the Snow Park. 

After your visit to the Snow Park, your day at Camp Tamok and Tromsø Ice Domes has come to an end and it is time to board the bus and return to Tromsø, taking with you great memories of an adrenaline-filled day in the Arctic wilderness and images of the magical snow art.

10:15 – 10:30 Arrival and parking at Camp Tamok

10:30 – 11:30 Clothing, preparation and instruction

11:30 – 13:00 Snowmobiling Activity

13:00 – 14:30 Hot meal and free time

14:30 – 16:00 Visit to the Snow Park

• 09:00 - 17:30 (8,5 hours)

• This activity is not suitable for wheelchair users

Single Supplement:

• Supplement cost of driving solo is 1495 NOK

Insurance Info: 

• Self liability can be reduced to 1000 NOK by paying waiver supplement of 300 NOK per driver.

Physical Difficulty Level (Snowmobiling): 

Medium

• Participating typically requires a moderate level of physical fitness. You should be able to sit comfortably for extended periods and have sufficient strength and coordination to operate the snowmobile controls. Additionally, you should be prepared for outdoor weather conditions which can be harsh and unpredictable during Arctic winter. Temperatures often drop below freezing, with averages ranging from -10°C to -20°C.

• Please inform us in advance if any medical conditions or physical limitations, such as heart problems, back issues, or recent surgeries as potential risk when participating in this activity. 

Restrictions (Snowmobiling):

• You need to be minimum 18 years old and hold a valid driver's license to operate a snowmobile safely. 

• Passengers needs to be minimum 7 years old. 

• Each child must be accompanied by an adult. 

• Drivers and passengers must be minimum 130cm in height to meet the safety requirements. 

• Pregnant people are not allowed on this tour

Special requests:

• Please inform us of any food allergies or dietary restrictions upon booking.

• If no notice is given in advance, an extra fee of 150 NOK will be charged.

Important note: 

• The duration of the snowmobiling activity (the time you will spend on the tracks, driving the snowmobile) can differ day to day, depending on snow and weather conditions. 

• Due to the dramatic topography, a reduced speed is maintained during some parts of the tour.  

• This tour does not include reindeer sledding, Sami Culture or feeding the reindeer. 

• The reindeer herd exists of 5-6 reindeer. 

• Please note that this activity will take place entirely outdoors, exposing you to the elements of the Arctic winter. Therefore, it is crucial to dress warmly and appropriately for the weather conditions to ensure your comfort throughout the experience. We will provide warm thermal suits and boots, but it is still important to dress up in layers, wear proper winter garments, and prepare to embrace the cold for this Arctic experience.
