Facing West, the view of rugged, snow-capped peaks merging into the sea remains eternally captivating. As we continue our drive on Kvaløya island, a remote valley leads us to the coast, where charming fishing huts dot the shoreline.

Encounter Arctic Wildlife on “Whale Island”

Keep your eyes peeled for reindeer along the way. Kvaløya hosts two large reindeer herds that roam freely during the summer. Your guide will share fascinating insights into Sami culture as we journey. But the wildlife spectacle doesn’t end there—seals, moose, harbor porpoises, and white-tailed eagles also grace the island. Kvaløya, aptly known as “Whale Island” in Northern Sami (Sállir), is an excellent spot for whale watching. Humpback Whales are particularly active during Polar Night and from November to January.

At Sommarøy, we’ll take you to a secluded beach where you can soak in the stunning Arctic views while sipping a comforting hot chocolate.
