Ålesund: 6-Day Holiday Package Norwegian Fjords Self-Drive

This six-day self-drive journey explores fjords, mountains, and coastal landscapes in western Norway. The trip begins in Ålesund where you collect your rental car and stay for the first night. From here the route travels inland toward Geirangerfjord.

While staying near Geiranger you join a fjord safari by electric boat that travels through the fjord with close views of waterfalls including the Seven Sisters.

The journey continues north toward Åndalsnes where you ride the Romsdalen Gondola for views across the Romsdalen valley and surrounding mountains.

From Åndalsnes the route continues to Kristiansund before following the Atlantic Ocean Road back toward Ålesund.

The journey ends with departure from Ålesund Airport after six days of fjords, coastal roads, and mountain landscapes.

Day 1: Arrive in Ålesund and Explore the Harbour
Arrive at Ålesund Airport and collect your rental car. Drive to your centrally located hotel and check in for one night. Spend the rest of the day exploring Ålesund’s harbour, Art Nouveau architecture, and waterfront.

Day 2: Drive to Geiranger and Cruise the Geirangerfjord
Begin your fjord journey by driving from Ålesund to Geiranger with scenic stops along the route. After arrival, check in to your accommodation located within driving distance of Geiranger village.
In the evening join a fjord safari by electric boat. The tour travels through Geirangerfjord with close views of waterfalls including the Seven Sisters.

Day 3: Drive to Åndalsnes and Ride the Romsdalen Gondola
Continue your journey north toward Åndalsnes. Optional stops include Øvstesølbrua and the Trollstigen mountain road. After arrival, check in to your hotel. Later take the Romsdalen Gondola to the mountain viewpoint above Åndalsnes. The round-trip ticket is valid for the day and offers views across the Romsdalen valley and surrounding peaks.

Day 4: Drive to Kristiansund and Explore the Coastal Town
Travel north toward Kristiansund with optional stops at Bolsøybrua and Batnfjordsøra. After arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the evening exploring the coastal town.

Day 5: Drive the Atlantic Ocean Road to Ålesund
Drive along one of Norway’s most well-known coastal routes, the Atlantic Ocean Road. Optional stops include viewpoints near Molde before continuing to Ålesund. Check in to your hotel for your final night.

Day 6: Depart from Ålesund
Drive to Ålesund Airport and return your rental car before departure.
