What to expect?
Experience the Folgefonna glacier with our daily Blue Ice Hike! This glacial hiking adventure, available from June to October, starts from the Fonna Glacier Ski Resort near the village of Jondal.
The Juklavass Glacier, a part of the Folgefonna Glacier, offers a unique blend of serene, flat ice and more thrilling crevasse areas. The tour is tailored to the participants’ preferences and conditions.
Folgefonna, Norway’s third-largest glacier, is a collective name for three glaciers: Nordre (northern) Folgefonna, Midtre (central) Folgefonna, and Søndre (southern) Folgefonna. Together, they cover an area of approximately 200 square kilometers. The largest outflow glaciers, Blomstølskardbreen, Bondhusbreen, and Buarbreen, provide several viewing spots and opportunities for hiking and even summer skiing.
During the hike, we pause for a lunch break, offering a world-class panoramic view of the North Sea and the Rosendal Alps. Our experienced glacier guides will share fascinating details about the local culture, physical geography, climate, and more.
As the afternoon light bathes the landscape, we make our way back to the Fonna Glacier Centre, with the fjord and mountains unfolding beneath us. This unforgettable journey offers a glimpse into the glacial wilderness of Western Norway, a remarkable contrast to the fjords and lush valleys.
Note: to reach Fonna Glacier Ski Resort, follow the asphalt road (19 km) all the way from the village Jondal by the fiord to Fonna Glacier Ski Resort, (follow traffic signs to Folgefonna), note there is a toll station after 8 km costing about 100 NOK for a car to pass.
