Our Blue Ice Hike on the Juklavass Glacier is arranged daily from June to September and starts from Fonna Glacier Ski Resort. The Juklavass Glacier consists of both calm, flat ice and more challenging crevasse areas. Enjoy panoramic views, earn about local culture, the physical geography of the glacier, climate etc. In the afternoon light we return back to Fonna Glacier Centre with the fjord and mountains behind us.

What to expect?
Blue Ice Hike in Juklavass glacier is arranged daily from end May to November, hike starts from guide shop at Folgefonna Glacier Center, 19km from Jondal. Juklavass Glacier consists of both calm, flat ice and more challenging crevasse areas. In beginning of season the glacier is a snow landscape, this change during season to a blue ice landscape, before fresh snow covers the landscape again at end of season. The tour is adapted to the participators wishes and conditions. We take lunch break with world class panorama view of the North Sea and the Rosendal alps. Glacier guide will convey details about the culture, physical geography, climate etc. In the afternoon light, we return back to Folgefonna Glacier Centre with the fjord and mountains below us.
The hike can be adjusted for everyone above 10 years old (book Private Guide if having younger children). The hike can be from easy hiking with panorama view to the ice landscape and the fjord to more advanced ice climbing. Each glacier guide adjust the hike after the groups whishes and ice/snow conditions. Maximum participants pr. guide is 10 persons. If you want to be 100% sure you get enough ice climbing/challenge or you have small children we recommend booking private guide instead, then guide will adjust the hike only for you and your friends/family.
Safety is always our highest concern every day, we work hard to identify and eliminate all risks to make sure the hike is safe for guests and glacier guides. This hike is a nature experience, not extreme sport.for a car to pass.

What to bring
Please bring your personal warm, wind-and waterproof clothing (depending on weather), gloves, mountain boots (if you have your own), food and something to drink (possible to pre book lunch boxes). Sunglasses and sun lotion is needed. Please also bring your own backpack with some extra space for glacier equipment. Included in the hike price is rental of crampons, ice-axe, harness, helm, rope, and mountain boots (if you do not have your own). We provide mountain boots in sizes from 33 to 48 (EUR).
We offer rental of wind and water proof clothing, and sell gloves in case you have forgotten to bring. For sale, we also have sunglasses, sun lotion, maps, snacks, lunch food (please send e-mail in front of the hike if you want to buy these things). Our lunch boxes can be preordered in booking process, cost 359 NOK. Our lunch packets consist of wraps, apple, chocolate, and 2 x 0,5 l water.
