What to expect?
The Mt. Oksen trail begins in Tjoflot, initially winding its way up through a beautiful native forest. After a challenging start and a demanding climb, the trail emerges above the tree line, offering the first glimpses of the breathtaking views ahead.
The higher you ascend, the more rewarding the view becomes.
Upon reaching the summit at 1241m, you are greeted with 360-degree views of Samlafjorden, Sørfjorden, Eidfjorden, and Granvinsfjorden, as well as panoramic views of the mountain ridge surrounding Voss and Norway’s third-largest glacier, Folgefonna.
Please note that Mt. Oksen is a demanding hike requiring a good level of fitness. Appropriate clothing and footwear are essential.
The trail ascends 990m directly from the car park. While there are no dangerous passages, there are two particularly steep sections between 400m and 600m, and again towards the top at 800m. This hike is one of the best fjord hikes in Norway, a true gem off the beaten track in the Hardangerfjord area!
