What to expect?
Snowshoeing is a perfect activity for those who wish to explore winter mountains in Norway without the need to know any special skills. If you know how to walk, then you also know how to snowshoe! Explore the beauty of Hardanger covered in snow.
Walking in the deep snow without any equipment can be a nightmare. That is why we love snowshoes! They enable you walk on top of the snow and give you a better grip on slippery or icy surfaces. With snowshoes it is suddenly possible to discover new worlds.
Your guide for the day will meet you at the base in Skjeggedal. There you will learn about the basics about walking with snowshoes and movement on top of snow. After the intro part, you start tour in a scenic winter landscape. Snow hangs heavily on the branches, the waterfalls and lakes are frozen, the fresh mountain air fills your lungs. It feels like life is paused just for a little while and you have time to take in all the impressions.
We have a set of various routes that are suitable for snowshoeing. The views vary depending on the exact location of your adventure.
From Skjeggedal we can reach many nice viepoints, to the west you will find views towards the Hardangerfjord and the Folgefonna glacier. And to the east views towards Ringedalen lake and the area of Trolltunga. The route and lenght can be adjusted to your request.
On this tour we often make a visit to our Trolltunga Gateway Cabin at Mågelitopp, lunch, hot drinks, barbeque on request, and enjoy the sun from the cabin terrasse. The return down to Skjeggedal will be on a powerful snowracer.
Safety
Safety is the highest priority on our guided tours to Trolltunga. During winter, the condtions in the mountain are unreliable. The hiking conditions changes day to day, and the weather can change within hours. Our guides are professional and will during the tour make descisions based on safety. As a participant on our tours you are obliged to follow any safety descisions made by the guide. Also at Trolltunga the conditions can be so that it’s dangerous to enter Trolltunga, fex ice making the access not possible. In these cases we have good alternative photospots.
We encourage you to join the Trolltunga Active information meeting at Trolltunga Hotel in Odda by 21:00 the evening prior to your tour. Our guides will inform you about the hike, equipment needed, weather forecast and more.
