Northern Norway

What we love about Northern Norway

Northern Norway is a magical place. Welcome to the land of the Midnight Sun and the Northern Lights, where mountains rise high into the sky and fall steep into the fjords. This is the Arctic where Mother Nature shows her true colors. Yet it is also the last stop of the Gulf Stream, which carries with it surprisingly pleasant temperatures and ensures an abundance of life everywhere you look. We know that no matter how many places you have seen, you have never seen anything like Northern Norway.

Adventures are endless, including excursions to the Northernmost point of Europe, the North Cape, or across the Arctic Circle, and there is an abundance of activities to be explored. In the winter it is known for the stunningly beautiful aurora borealis Northern Lights, snowmobile safaris, husky safaris, reindeer safaris, whale watching, cross-country skiing, off-piste skiing, snowshoeing, ice hotels, and much more.

A more relaxed way to see Northern Norway is to sail along the coast with one of the Hurtigruten ships, that make several stops along the Northern Norway coastline. Join a Hurtigruten cruise to explore several of the towns along the coastal stretch, including Bodø, Tromsø and Kirkenes.

While the arctic climate can be harsh with long winters, people living here are said to be some of Norway’s friendliest and they are known for making everybody feel welcome. In the very North you can experience both the Norwegian culture and the indigenous sami culture. People here love to share their affection for the nature, the culture and to show off the beauty of their region.

Did you know that the area of Northern Norway has the lowest population percentage in Norway? The area occupies 35% of the country but only 9.1% of the Norwegian population.
