What to expect?
Did you know that Lapland had the Gold Rush at the same time as Canada? Now you have the perfect opportunity to try your hand at the historic gold panning for yourself. Experience the excitement of seeking the hidden gold treasure of Lapland.Your Adventure starts as you hop on board the Golden Fox riverboat. The trip along the Ounas-Joki river to the Happy Fox forest farm takes approximately 30 minutes. During the riverboat trip, you can admire the beautiful riverside views.
Upon arrival at the farm, Mama Fox, a geologist, will tell you about the Lapland´s gold and its history and legends. The session is followed by knowledge of how gold is traditionally prospected by sluice boxes.
You will then get to try gold panning, a traditional gold prospecting method. If you get lucky, you may find a gold nugget. The best part is that all the gold you may find is yours to keep!
During the gold panning, you'll enjoy a typical Finnish Muurikka crêpe with berries and campfire coffee or tea.
The return trip to Rovaniemi is made on the team's fast riverboat. This trip allows you one more chance to admire the beautiful nature of Ounasjoki and recap the happenings of the exciting day.
