What to expect?
You will start your journey from the city centre, where you will hop on a comfortable vehicle and enjoy a scenic 25-minute drive along the seaside. You will arrive at the camp, where a herd of around 300 reindeer will greet you with curiosity and excitement. You will have the opportunity to feed these majestic animals, who might even nibble from your hands, and learn how to use the lasso (but don’t worry, you won’t have to catch any real reindeer).
Next, you will hop on a reindeer sled and glide through the snow for 10-15 minutes, feeling the fresh air on your face and the warmth of the reindeer fur on your legs. You will marvel at the stunning views of the mountains and the fjords, and feel a connection with nature and the Sami way of life.
After the sledding, you will enter a gamme, a traditional wooden hut, where a delicious Sami meal cooked over the fire will await you. You will savor the taste of bidos, a hearty stew made with reindeer meat and vegetables, and lefse, a soft flatbread with a sweet filling. You will also enjoy warm drinks, such as coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. A vegetarian option is also available.
Finally, you will be invited into a lavvu, a large tent made of reindeer skins, where you will gather around the fire and listen to stories about Sami culture and reindeer herding. You will learn about the history, traditions, and challenges of the Sami people, who have lived in harmony with nature for centuries. You will also be treated to a joik, a traditional Sami song that expresses the soul of the singer. You will feel the emotion and the beauty of the joik, and maybe even join in.
